Dad’s Guacamole

Dad’s Guacamole Has Roots

I bet you know a great cook who generally does not use measuring cups or spoons when they cook. They take ingredients and experience and the result is almost always something delicious. This is my dad. He worked hard as a pipefitter, so most days he was way too tired to cook. When he did whip something up, it was made to please a crowd–even if the crowd was just our family–as was the case with “Dad’s Guacamole”.

Besides a natural proclivity for cooking, I think the secret to these beloved home cooks is tasting. They spice to taste and add ingredients to taste. They have great taste buds, and they are not afraid to use them!

Recipes Require Showing Your Work-Dad’s Guacamole is No Different!

The difficult thing with this type of cook is trying to get a recipe out of them! One day I wanted to make guacamole, and I reminisced about my dad’s guac he had one day when we all came over for a party. He just shrugged it off like–oh, yeah I just cut up some avocados, threw in some…nothing special. But it was special because we all could not get enough! Later on, he gave me more specific information, but cooking is kind of like doing math in your head…sometimes showing your work is harder.

I also learned a lot of simple tricks in the kitchen at home. Below is an image that shows how, but I also have step-by-step instructions in the recipe on how to decon an avocado (in case anyone wants this information).

No need to be intimidated by avocados!

Today, my dad still loves to cook for a crowd! Dad’s Guacamole recipe is sure to please your crowd, so give it a try and see for yourself!

As always, I recommend playing to the crowd when it comes to ingredients. Do not set yourself up for disappointment. If your audience does not like an ingredient, then feel free to nix it! If you are missing an ingredient you would like to try in it, I recommend taking a bit of the dip and tasting it with this other flavor to make sure it is not a clash of ingredients.

No matter how you prefer it, I hope you enjoy this recipe! Please leave a comment to share your story of someone in your life who cooks like my dad. Also, let me know your thoughts and if you tried any variations! THANK YOU! –Jiffy
